Fans of the TV show Longmire know that it took pla

Fans of the TV show Longmire know that it took place in Wyoming, but it turns out it wasn’t actually filmed there. Northern New Mexico stood in for Absaroka County throughout the show, with filming primarily taking place in and around the Las Vegas (NM), Santa Fe, and Los Alamos areas. The cabin that stood in for Sheriff Longmire’s home is a historical cabin in the Valles Caldera, an extinct volcanic caldera just west of Los Alamos. The cabin was built in 1918 and served as the Ranch Foreman’s Cabin for the families that grazed sheep and cattle on the land until the early 2000s. Now managed by the National Park Service, the Valles Caldera National Preserve is open for visitors year-round. You can drive right up to the Cabin District, which features this cabin and other historical structures; however, be aware that the roads may close due to inclement weather. After our wedding, 14 years ago today, we were starving and the only thing open at 1 am near tiny Palisade, CO was a Taco Bell. So we eagerly dined on tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. It was so much fun that having Taco Bell for dinner has become our anniversary tradition. We’ve elevated the experience over the years by pairing it with bubbles.
