Airstream Dreamin’

Obviously, one of the key parts of making this traveling dream a reality is to actually get an Airstream. After many, many months of devouring every picture and video we could find online (maybe almost obsessively so), we headed to Denver to celebrate Jen’s 40th birthday in February and had the opportunity to physically see and explore some Airstreams- finally! We happened to be there the same day as an RV Show (located elsewhere in town), which made the dealership very short on sales staff. Since there wasn’t anyone to help us, a very nice employee asked us which ones we wanted to see, unlocked all of them, and let us explore uninterrupted for as long as we wanted. Best car/house/trailer/big purchase experience ever!

Being the incredibly organized and slightly obsessed individuals that we are, we (of course!) had narrowed down our potential options to three- the Classic, a 28′ International Serenity, and a 30′ International Serenity, though we already knew which one we would choose. On a completely random side note, this seems to be a pattern with us. Driving around Grand Junction one day in the summer of 2012, we were trying to decide if we should finally make the move from our house in the mountains. In our cruising, we happened to drive by a house under construction and it kind of stuck with us (for reasons we can’t begin to explain). Months later when we got serious about buying, we saw pictures of this same house online (not initially realizing that it was the same house) and knew it was the “one”. Our realtor being the intelligent and successful woman that she is insisted that we look at a few others; and we did, but ultimately and without hesitation bought that first one. But, I digress…

Left to explore at our leisure, it took no more than 30 seconds for us to determine that the Classic was not the right fit. The second one that we checked out was the 28′ International Serenity. It had lots of what we wanted and very cool red leather, but it too wasn’t the one we wanted. As we write this and describe the experience, suddenly we’re feeling like maybe we should have titled this post- Goldilocks and the Three Airstreams. The final trailer that we explored was the 30′ International Serenity and as suspected, we knew it was the “one” from the moment we stepped inside. If we could have hooked it up to our Audi SQ5 and driven it home, we would have; however, the Audi probably wouldn’t have been as excited (or ever been the same) after the more than 250 mile trip home through the Eisenhower Tunnel and over Vail Pass.

We’re still a few months away from actually purchasing our chosen Airstream, but that hasn’t stopped us from having it decorated and outfitted in our minds. And we admit, still obsessively watching videos, scouring Pinterest for ideas…and Airstream Dreamin’.
